Cyber Intelligence & Social Media Surveillance
In his keynote address at MRC Vegas 2018, licensed private investigator Keith Elliott discussed ways in which companies can use actionable intelligence from social media for their investigations. The keynote began with a brief look at the size of the Internet and share of pages which are publicly accessible, along with the importance of using proxies or virtual private networks (VPNs) for social media searches. The focus then turned to Facebook and how simple techniques can be used to access photos, comments on posts, videos, and more. Next, practical social media investigation "do's" and "don'ts" were presented; several social media monitoring tools were also mentioned. The address concluded with resourceful methods for geolocating users with Twitter and Instagram.
