As eCommerce continues to grow at a rapid rate, regulations have not evolved in tandem. Now a number of laws are taking effect that are or will soon have a significant impact on online retailers.

This presentation looks at three key regulations, beginning with revisions to California's Automatic Renewal Law. The focus then turns to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which took effect in late May 2018. After providing an overview and main tenants of GDPR, the provision commonly known as the "right to be forgotten" is explored, focusing on potential misuse and what approaches companies are taking to mitigate the risk. The discussion concludes with a look at two main components of the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) and Access to Accounts (XS2A), focusing on SCA exemptions and how merchants are approaching the new requirements.
